Music of United States of America (USA)
America is
a diverse place, there are people from different races and cultures living in
USA. That is why the taste of music in US differs a lot. There is a general
trend in US that people really like rap and hip hop music. To take an example; Justin
Bieber recently came out with a new album and 6 out of 10 songs were on iTunes
top songs. In US, hip-hop music is heard a lot in US if you look at iTunes top
10, 5 songs are hip-hop while 3 of them are rap.
Rap music
also has a huge audience in the US, if we look at top 3 albums on iTunes, two
of those albums are rap; “lil uzi vert’s Eternal Atake (deluxe) LUV vs the
world 2” and “Eminem’s Music to be murdered by”. There is a huge number of
rappers who have gone platinum with their albums. Naming a few of them like
Eminem, lil uzi very, Drake, Kanye West, Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Snoop dogg, Busta rhythms,
Kendrick Lamar, Chance the rapper.
On the
country side, people listen to acoustic and country music. People normally
listen to Blake Shelton, Ted McGraw, Billie nelson, Keith urban, Eric church.
US has
always had an audience for latino music but that has been increasing since 2016
and ever since songs like “Despacito and Mi Gente” came out they have picked the
interest in latino music. Artists like Maluma, J Balvin, Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee
and Luis Fonsi, DJ Snake have been trending a lot in the US.
Ever since
2015, there has been this strong rise in the kpop listeners in USA. People have
started listening to kpop more and more. Sure, before 2015 there were kpop
bands that were very hit and heard in US like EXO, BIGBANG, GIRLS GENERATION etc.
but since 2015 BTS has taken US like a storm. Number of BTS fans in US have
been increasing exponentially. In 2017, they released “DNA” which was so
popular in US that it stayed #1 on iTunes for a month and recently the album
that they released “BTS: Map of the soul 7”, it is in top 5 on iTunes for 3
weeks. BTS not just introduced US to their music but to the kpop in general because
of which now there’s a huge audience for kpop in US.
