Music of Vietnam
Vietnamese music is highly diverse
and is mostly influenced by both native and foreign (China). The music genre in
Vietnam are imperial, ceremonial, folk, hip hop, and rock music. Whereas
musical instruments and categorized into four groups i.e. plucked strings,
bowed strings, winds and percussion. Classical music is performed in honor of
gods and imperial music is played in imperial courts. Vietnamese folk music
includes dân ca, quan họ, hát chầu văn, ca trù, hò, and hát xẩm and some other
forms.
Vietnamese music is gradually embracing
the modern pop, rock and hip-hop culture. There are many famous underground
artists such as Andree Right Hand, Big Daddy, Shadow P (all featured in a
popular song called Để anh được yêu) or Lil' Knight and countless others who
have risen to fame through the Internet. For the last 10 years, metal has
become more mainstream in Vietnam. Unlimited, Ngũ Cung, Microwave, and the
Black Infinity are the current top Vietnamese metal bands in the 21st century.
