Music of Spain | Musica de Espana

Spain has historically taken a lot of influences from other cultures and different cultures came in impact with different region and that is why traditional music in Spain carries from region to region. For Example; traditional music of Canary islands is based around the archipelago’s indigenous Guanche civilization while on the other hand bagpipe music of Galicia relates to the celtic heritage of northern region. Traditional music really flourished in the Moorish era. Upto eight centuries, Muslims, Jews and Christian co existed in Spain, this period left a lot of important elements in the Spanish History. These elements stayed even after the reconquest. Due all these impacts Spain developed taste for these 10 music types;Pop, Flamenco, Gregorian Chants, Zarzuela, Jota, Jazz, Classical, Bacalao, Indie, Classical Guitar.




Spanish music mainly listened in Spain and in other Spanish speaking countries. Some of these artists are very famous in other Spanish countries. For example; Leroy Sanchez, Diego Boneta, Najwa Nimri, Manu Chao, David Bisbal are very loved. Spanish people mainly listen to Spanish music but they also do tend to listen to music that trending in Europe like recently The Weekend’s Blinding lights was trending in Europe so it started trending in Spain as well.



Rap music is not preferred by the Spanish audience none of the top ten songs or top ten albums were rap. Pop music tend to trend a lot because new generation of Spaniards are very interested in pop music. Top 5 album on itunes are constantly pop music. Music from South American Artists also tends to be loved in Spain specially music from artists like Bad bunny, Maluma, J Balvin, DJ Snake, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee.
