Music of Iran

Iranian music has a long history and with multiple phases. Music in Iran before the Islam was used as a mean of communication. Later music in Iran became a part of people’s belief and then people used to play it on the occasions and funerals. There were three types of genres famous at the time of Achaemenians, military, local and religious. These music still influence some of the people in different parts of Iran.



In the era of Islam Caliphs interpreted music of Iran to be against the basic principles and fundamentals of Islam. Then artist of that time started to change the music by converting it into sad and religious music as per the current situation. They mixed music with poetry and the instruments they used to use was drums and horns. Afterwards some Sufi came up with more religious music which was really liked by the people and the scholars of Islam.
After then many phases of music came in like Samanid period, Seljuk period, Safavid period. Afsharid period, Zand period, Qajar period, pahlavi period. In the time of Seljuk music was enhanced and they motivated every single town to make their music. Afsharid overall encouraged Iran to bring new invasions in music.
Young artist then started to change the music to match it with the new social trends and until now music in Iran is still undergoing alot of changes. Some of the famous songs of Iran are Behet ghol midam, Saat e 9, Shahla, Mahtab, hamdam, parya khanoom, parvaz and alot more.
