Music of Germany | Musik von Deutschland


Germans have contributed a lot to the music throughout the history. Germans have contributed a lot to the world not just in music but in many other fields like physics, mathematics, arts. Classical German music took birth in 16th century and is alive today unlike other classical music that have perished along the time. The old german composers were the ones that put German music on the map especially “Three Bs’’. Johann Sabestian Bach, a german composer contributed to Baroque which is a style of music using ornate composition along strong tonal chord progressions. He also wrote music for Sonatas, Orchestral chambers and pieces for choral groups.


The Romantic time of Classical music gave birth to artists like Notable Ludwig van Beethoven, Richard Wagnar, Johannes Brahms. Beethoven nine pieces are considered to be his Greatest work. Beethoven’s music can be divided into three segments; his early period comprises of him imitating the art of other artists but later he found his own style. In his middle period, he shifted his interest to larger orchestra set music. In his late period, he deafness became apparent and his work gained an emotional touch to it.

German music changed a lot between the First and Seciond world war, people wanted the music to relay what they wanted to say. Over the year, German folk music has branched out into different groups such as Swabians and Sorbians. Germany also has its own version of “Soft Rock” called Schlanger. It dates back to early 20th Centaury. It reached its peak in 1960’s and 1970’s with bands like Rex Gildo and Heino.


Germany was started getting into electro music in 1970. In 80’s Germany saw its obsession with electronic music change and move towards techno music. German techno music still breathes in Berlin with DJs like Ellen Allien, Modeselektor, Apparat and Modera. These DJs are the life of EDM in Germany. Techno music created the Bridge between East and West Germany.

Germany’s Techno music gave rise to Hiphop. Techno artist slowly started collaborating with rap artists like Fischmod. German hiphop follows different way of thought e.g. group like Advanced Chemistry affiliate it with politics while some like Die Fantastischen focus on the humorous side. In Rap, there are also some style in Germany e.g. Rapper Sido has his symbolic aggressive style while Samy Deluxe gets his inspiration from American hip-hop. Recently Casper and “Raop” performer Cro Started making hiphop music that speaks to the younger generation. In Germany, for few years in the past Rap music is very popular and people really love it.
