Music of Canada

Canada has people from different cultures and backgrounds which make it vast when it comes to music and genres. Music started in Canada from the time of French and Indian wars. People used to make music from the horns of animals, carved wood was turned into drums and they used these elements to produce music and to cheer people up. Those wars left the people economically drained and they didn’t had enough equipments to produce music properly so people used these hand made local instruments to make traditional songs and dances. After in 1760’s Canada made its first home-grown opera by the artists like poet and playwright Joseph Quesnel. In “ Concert Hall” existed in Quebec the talented artist used to play it with the bands.



“Gradual roman” was the first volume of music printed in Canada. A poet Thomas Moore wrote a poem on Canada “The Canada boat song” it was so famous that it was continuously published on Boston, New York city for 40 years. A temple of children of piece was made where the band used to play music it was made in 1820.
In 1918 Canada made its first Compo company to serve the record companies such as Okeh Records to make records independently. In 1920 first radio station started in Canada which helped the song writers to contribute some of the most famous traditional music of Canada.
First appointment of a musician was of Murray Adaskin. He was a violist and musician in university of Saskatchewan.
During the great depression in 1930’s Canadian people started to listen jazz and one of the most famous artist of that is Guy Lombardo. In second world war Canadian artist produced some patriotic and cultural based songs. Canadian singers went in opera houses to sing those songs.



In 1958 one of famous Rock and Country music singer Paul Anka came up with the song “Diana” which he performed on New York on ABC and it gained alot of fame that it was on number first on US billboard charts. Afterwards in 1980’s taste of music started to change and a women Celine Dion came to foreground with Canadian hip hop music.
In 21 century Canadian singers started to gain fame all around the world like Drake, The weekend, Shawn Mendes, Justin bieber, Micheal buble, Avril lavigne.They made songs which had billions of views all around the world. Come the famous songs are Toosie slide, God’s Plan, In my feelings, Can’t feel my face, Blinding lights, Earned it, Baby, The hills, wicked games, Often, in my blood, mercy, life of the party, stitches, lost in japan, as long as you love me, Love yourself, sorry, let me love you, I don’t care, where are you now, what do you mean, I’m the one.
